Children having something to See, Hear and Say

The obvious characteristics of Videos and Films are their visual aspect. Humans intuitively grasp the power of images to convey meaning. The adage, values a picture at a thousand times the value of a word. Research has shown that multiple tracks of audio and visual information convey powerful learning benefits, as each source complements the other. Viewing is an active process, perhaps best thought of as an interactive experience to bear on the screen, viewers bring their own experiences and expectations to bear on viewing. In the context of casual, effortless viewing, learning tends to be shallow an short- lived, but when viewing is more purposeful, then deeper and more sophisticated learning can occur.

Visual Media is already an essential component of classroom instruction, with more teachers employing video in some form or the other in their teaching. As the presence of broadband, digital media and streaming videos increases, video is likely to become an even more essential classroom resource. These visual instructional resources need to be not only effective but demonstrable also. Research in education is therefore more important now than ever before.
